The Grand National Racing Carnival provides a mix of flat and jumping races.

The feature is undoubtedly the energy sapping FMG NZ Grand National Steeplechase, in which the field travels 5600 metres and jumps 21 of the toughest fences in the country.

New Zealand's best winter flat gallopers compete for Group 3 glory in the prestigious Aussie Brownes Pharmacies Winter Cup over the 1600 metre distance.
 

The best horses in all classes are drawn from the length and breadth of the country to compete for the rich stakes offered.

This Carnival is one of the most important, successful and showcase meetings of the New Zealand racing scene. (And it shares the ocassion with other Winter Events in Christchurch city.)

Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup, Group 3, and New Zealand Bloodstock 1000 Guineas, Group 1

This is arguably the greatest week of racing in New Zealand, embracing everything that is great about Christchurch and Canterbury.

Nine Group and Listed races dominate the 32 races held over the meeting.

At this meeting Riccarton Park becomes the focal point of spring racing with the very best three-year-olds travelling to Christchurch seeking to emulate some of the greats of the Australasian turf by winning either of the Guineas races.

The $1 million, Group 1, NZ 2000 Guineas is now run on Day 1 bringing additional life and vitality to the first Saturday.

One of the most popular races in the country, the Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup is the catalyst that draws the biggest crowd of the year to Riccarton Park. 3200 metres is the ultimate staying test for thoroughbreds and being the distance of the Cup, adds that little bit of extra magic to the race.

The New Zealand Bloodstock 1000 Guineas is now run on the third day alongside the Cup enhanceing the careeers of many fine fillies.

Excitement, fashion, entertainment, glamour, partying and warm early summer days typify this meeting.

All three race-days at the Cup Meeting are Premier events providing highly competitive racing and betting options. The middle day also has a wonderfulfeature, the Coupland's Bakeries Mile now into it's fifth running. The richest open handicap at the 1600 metre distance in New Zealand.
